Ottawa Art Gallery Expansion & Arts Court Redevelopment – Preliminary Design

Advocate Architects:
Barry Padolsky Associates Inc. Architects and KPMB Joint Venture Architects

Completion Date:
2014

Project Overview:

This project included the expansion and redevelopment of Ottawa’s downtown Arts Court facility, including a new facility for the Ottawa Art Gallery and a new Black Box Theatre for the University of Ottawa.  The existing building will be renovated to accommodate the growing needs of the existing arts organizations.

A private sector component comprised of a high-rise residential and hotel structure with underground parking will contribute, through the sale of air rights, to the funding of the cultural component.  The developer was selected by the City through a RFP procurement process and is responsible for the cultural component for the City of Ottawa and will design/build/finance/own/operate the private sector component.

Services of the Advocate Architects involved retaining and coordinating the sub-consultants required to implement the project at the Functional – Technical Design Stage, Conceptual Design Stage, Schematic Design Stage and Design Development Stage.  In addition, assistance was provided in the RFP selection process for the Private Sector Procurement.

The project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion in late summer 2017.
